Badshah reveals he suffered from sleep apnea, the same condition which Bappi Lahiri lost his life to
Badshah confessed on Shilpa Shetty's health and fitness based talk show Shape of You, that he suffered from sleep apnea which became a big reason for him to shed excess weight.
Singer and rapper Badshah joined Shilpa Shetty on her chat show Shape Of You as a guest and spoke about his journey to fitness and the reasons that made him lose weight. While Shilpa lauded Badshah who judges the show India’s Got Talent with him on TV for having lost excess weight in the past two years and he shared the two big reasons that put him on the path to leading a healthy life.
Badshah shared with Shilpa, “There were several important reasons to lose weight. One of them was that my job requires me to perform on stage for at least 120 minutes. So, I have to be active. Also weight, my cardio is also done on stage. But in between there was the lock down, post which we resumed our shows and I went up on stage, I realised that I didn’t have the stamina. I would begin panting 15 minutes. As a performer I have to give my best. So, that was a big reason.”
Badshah further revealed that he suffered from a condition called sleep apnea which grew in intensity with excess weight he had gained and became a driving force behind his journey to becoming fit. “The second reason was that I suffered from sleep apnea. It slowly became instense, which is very dangerous. For those who don’t know I want to tell them, I had a huge snoring problem.” He further revealed that he doesn’t face the issue anymore.
Joking about his snoring problem he added, “Earlier my parents would get to know that I am asleep because there was a lot of snoring happening. But now they get worried as they wonder if I am sleeping, or even at home, if I am ok, alive or dead because I am not snoring anymore. This was a big reason to stay healthy and fit.”
For the unversed, Bollywood’s disco legend Bappi Lahiri lost his life due to sleep apnea earlier this year. The people who suffer from the condition get reduced supply of oxygen when they are sleeping due to their airway getting blocked by soft fat tissue. The condition can be fatal if not taken seriously and is rather common in people who are overweight.
