Aranmanai 4 OTT release date confirmed: How Tamannaah Bhatia's horror-comedy defied OTT trends

The latest Tamil blockbuster Aranmanai 4 is all set to make its streaming debut next week. Disney+ Hotstar has confirmed that the movie will become available for streaming on its platform on June 16.

Aranmanai 4 will arrive on streaming a little more than six weeks after its theatrical debut, defying the prevailing short OTT window trend in Tamil cinema. Most new Tamil films start streaming less than a month after their initial theatrical release. However, this film benefited from an extended theatrical run, making it the most successful film in the franchise.

According to reports, Aranmanai 4 has sold more than Rs 95 crore worth of tickets worldwide within four weeks of its theatrical run. It's easily the biggest commercial hit compared to its three predecessors.

Aranmanai 4 also ended the dry spell at the Tamil Nadu box office, becoming the first big hit of Tamil cinema this year. The theatres in Tamil Nadu were craving exciting new content to attract audiences. Due to the Lok Sabha elections, the release of many highly awaited Tamil movies was delayed. The situation forced the theatres to rely on new Malayalam movies to fill up the seats.

Aranmanai 4 gave a much-needed break to the theatres as the film exceeded expectations in terms of both critical and commercial response. This is arguably the only instalment in the franchise that was so well-received by critics. Subsequently, it also struck a chord with audiences at the box office.

Sundar C has also played the lead role in the movie, besides writing and directing it. He uses the same template as other movies in the series but has spruced it up with some special effects.

"The plot of Aranmanai 4 goes something like this: an evil entity has been unleashed, and it begins to torment innocent people. Now, it falls on our hero's shoulders to destroy the evil with divine assistance. Yes, this was the plot of Aranmanai 3, 2, and 1. Should Sundar C decide to make Aranmanai 5, which in all likelihood he will, he's unlikely to change the plot," wrote Manoj Kumar R for Desimartini.
