While Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s extravagant coiled and folded gown at the Cannes Film Festival grabbed several eyeballs for all the right and wrong reasons, director Vivek Agnihotri took to his social media handle to take a dig at the ‘costumes slaves’ in reference to her attire. For the unversed, he referred to costume slaves as those people who are made to carry the gown of all the elite female celebrities and supermodels who attend these high-profile events. However, now Uorfi Javed took a jibe at the filmmaker for his statements.
Uorfi quoted Vivek Agnihotri’s tweet and stated, “Mai jaan na chalti hu Aapne kaunse fashion school se apni degree lee Hai? Aapko delh k lagta hai aapko fashion ki kaafi samajh hai , fashion movie aapko direct karni chahiye thi. (I want to know you have gotten your degree from which fashion school? By looking at you, it seems like you have a lot of knowledge about fashion. The movie Fashion should have been directed by you.)” Take a look at her tweet.
The Kashmir Files director’s post on a man carrying Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s gown from behind read, “Have you guys heard of a term called ‘Costume Slaves’. They are mostly girls (a suited man in this case). You can see them now in India too with almost every female celeb. Why are we becoming so stupid and oppressive just for such uncomfortable fashion?” However, after receiving a lot of flak for his post, Vivek Agnihotri clarified that the message was not a dig at the Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam actress in any way.
The Chocolate director said, “My comment has nothing to do with ARB. It’s only about the weird concept of ‘costume slavery’. And ARB is not responsible for it. She is just a model/fashion ambassador.” Meanwhile, Uorfi Javed is herself often known for her eccentric and bold fashion choices.
