Bollywood filmmaker Anurag Kashyap's fascination with South Indian movies and their talents is no secret. Whenever the director seems to hit a creative block, he looks to the South for inspiration. Similarly, the filmmaker is now in the process of remaking a hit Malayalam police thriller in Hindi.

Actor Vinod Sagar, who acted with Anurag Kashyap in the recently released Tamil film Maharaja, has confirmed the news. In an interview, Vinod recalled a conversation when Anurag mentioned his plans to remake the 2022 police procedural Salute.

"I used to attentively listen to all the things he (Anurag Kashyap) said. Since he watched a lot of world movies, he has seen all my Malayalam movies," he told SS Music.

Vinod revealed that even though Anurag has seen all his movies, he didn't realize that he was involved in those films until he told him. "He told me, 'you are very different in each film. So it's very difficult to identify you.' He's going to remake the Malayalam film Salute in Hindi. I told him that I played the main victim, Murali, in that film. He was taken by surprise," he revealed.

Salute is a cop procedural drama with Malayalam star Dulquer Salmaan playing the lead role. The movie was helmed by Rosshan Andrrews from a script penned by Bobby-Sanjay. The film received a lot of critical acclaim and also performed well at the box office. The Malayalam film is streaming on SonyLIV.

In the meantime, Vinod is basking in the success of Maharaja. The film stars Vijay Sethupathi in the lead role and is written and directed by Nithilan Saminathan. Vinod essays one of the main antagonists in the movie, along with Anurag.

The film has garnered rave reviews and is also doing well at the box office.
