During a conversation with Samay Raina on his YouTube channel, the interviewer asked Anurag if he ever went to jail. To this, the director replied that he had to spend a night in jail after he slapped a person.

He said, “Han gaya hu. Galat aadmi ko thappad maar diya tha. (Yes, I have gone to jail. I slapped the wrong person).” When asked how many days he spent in jail, he answered, "Ek raat." (One night).

Anurag added, "Jis aadmi ne mujhe jail mein daala, ussi aadmi ne meri life bhi badal di.” (The person who put me in jail also changed my life). He then clarified that it was actually a lock-up, not a jail. Anurag revealed that the person who made him go to jail also got him out of it because he admired the fact that Anurag did the right thing.

Earlier, in an interview with Fever FM, Anurag spoke about emerging actors who have made good progress in the film industry. The director added that he respects those who give him a clear refusal but criticised those who prolong the process for years or vanish without a response.

He added, “It still happens. There are two actors who started their careers with me and then ghosted me on the film that I am doing. They didn’t care to say yes or no; they just ghosted me."
