    This present season of Cannes film festival, which is in its 77th edition, has definitely been more than fruitful, eventful and also significant for India in many ways than one. While on one hand, there was the legendary filmmaker from Shyam Benegal’s Manthan, which had got a special screening at the festival, after as many as almost 48 years of its release, on the other hand, on the other hand, there emerged many influencers and celebrities who announced their arrival at the prestigious red carpet.

    Amongst everyone, there is Anasuya Sengupta, who has made India proud by becoming the first Indian to win Best Actress at prestigious film festival. The Kolkata based actress Anasuya Sengupta has become the prestigious winner of ‘Un Certain Regard Prize’ for Best Actress. She had bagged the said prize for her superlative and unbeatable performance in film The Shameless.

    As for the film The Shameless, it has been directed and written by Konstantin Bojanov, who happens to be a Bulgarian filmmaker Konstantin Bojanov. Besides Anasuya Sengupta, the film also stars Omara Shetty and Mita Vashist. The said film was shot over a month and half, in the locations of India and Nepal. The film’s premise revolves around the character of Renuka (as portrayed by Anasuya Sengupta), who kills a police officer and eventually, attempts a daredevil escape from a brothel in Delhi.

    As per the reports available, it has been mentioned that, the film’s director Konstantin Bojanov (who happens to be recipient of many prestigious awards), once, asked Anasuya to send him her audition tape, which marked the beginning of her acting career.

    While delivering her acceptance speech, Anasuya Sengupta said that she wanted to dedicate the award to the queer community and other marginalised communities for bravely fighting for their rights all around the world.

    The 77th edition of globally prestigious Cannes film festival concludes on May 25.
