Sivakarthikeyan in Amaran
Tamil star Sivakarthikeyan on Wednesday confirmed the release date of his upcoming movie, Amaran . Bankrolled by Kamal Haasan's banner, Raaj Kamal Films International, Amaran will be released in cinemas on October 31, coinciding with the Deepavali celebrations.
Amaran is expected to redefine Sivakarthikeyan's onscreen image and elevate him to a full-fledged action hero. Sivakarthikeyan started his career in show business as a stand-up comic and played comedic sidekicks to heroes in movies. Even when he started playing lead roles, they were mostly comedies. Sivakarthikeyan's name remained attached to comedy, and it took him years to change that popular perception by incorporating small doses of action into his movies.
With Amaran, Sivakarthikeyan is expected to be rechristened as an action star. "There lived a man who never feigned to be a hero...," read Sivakarthikeyan's caption while sharing the new poster.
The poster, which confirmed the release date of Amaran, also revealed Sivakarthikeyan's intense action avatar. He underwent a significant physical transformation that required him to gain muscles and get into fighting shape. He underwent training in combat and firearms to bring authenticity to his performance as an Indian army soldier.
Amaran is a biopic drama based on the life and times of slain soldier Major Mukund Varadarajan. The movie was inspired by a non-fiction book that documented the daring anti-terror operation led by Mukund Varadarajan in South Kashmir.
The teaser for Amaran that was released earlier promised an action-packed thriller coupled with strong geopolitical commentary.
Writer-director Rajkumar Periasamy has helmed Amaran. He revealed that while the non-fiction book inspired him to get involved in this project, he did a lot of research and interviews to piece together the life of Major Mukund Varadarajan.
Besides Sivakarthikeyan, Amaran also stars Sai Pallavi, Bhuvan Arora, Rahul Bose, and Lallu among others.
