The filmmakers were very determined to release the movie on August 15, coinciding with the Independence Day holiday. However, if the film is postponed to a later date, it will lead to a major reshuffle in the release calendar across South India.
It's said that with Pushpa 2 likely facing a delay, Chiyaan Vikram's Thangalaan may take that date. Written and directed by Pa Ranjith, the film has already missed a few release dates. Earlier, it was expected to hit the screens during the Republic Day holiday this year. However, it didn't happen due to production reasons.
With Thangalaan's post-production work complete, August 15 might be a perfect date for it to open in cinemas worldwide. Set against the backdrop of British India, the film follows the struggles of indigenous people to protect their rights and gold from the invaders.
There are also reports about Raaj Kamal Films International aiming to finish the post-production on Amaran to give it a release on the national holiday. The film's patriotic theme will be a perfect match for the fervor of the holiday. Written and directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, the film stars Sivakarthikeyan in the lead role. The movie is based on the life and times of Major Mukund Varadarajan. Set against the backdrop of the Kashmir insurgency, the film is expected to be an action extravaganza.
Pushpa 2 is one of the most-awaited movies of 2024. Not just in the Telugu states, the film also enjoys huge pre-release anticipation across the country.
