It was earlier reported that Alia Bhatt will be playing the role of Sita in Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious film Ramayan. While her husband and actor Ranbir Kapoor is playing the lead role of Lord Ram in the same, KGF star Yash is reportedly roped in to play the antagonist Ravan. However, the latest development suggests that the actress has opted out of the film.
Talking about the same, Alia Bhatt has reportedly walked out of the project owing to date issues. A source close to the development revealed to Pinkvilla, “As far as the casting is concerned, Ranbir Kapoor is still committed to playing Lord Ram, while Alia Bhatt - who was approached for the project - is no longer part of it. The actress was in talks for the role of Goddess Sita, but the collaboration didn’t work out because of date issues.”
Ranbir Kapoor was expected to start shooting for the project by December this year but now it has been reported that the three-part film is still in the pre-production stage and will not be going on floors so soon. The source went on to add, “It’s understandable that a magnum opus like Ramayana requires time and intense pre-production work, as they are going into the smallest details of everything to get it right on screen. Which is why things are progressing at a slower pace.”
However, Yash’s starring in the magnum opus is also not fully confirmed. The source furthermore said, “The makers are optimistic about getting him on board, but he has not yet signed. Yash is also committed to National Award-winning director Geethu Mohandas for a big-scale action thriller, so his casting in the Ramayana depends on what he prioritizes.”
On the work front, Alia Bhatt is all set to headline Yash Raj Films’ female-led spy flick. She also has Jee Le Zaraa in the pipeline. The actress furthermore made her Hollywood debut with Heart Of Stone recently.
