Akshay Kumar reveals the desperate reason which made him get a Canadian passport and decide to move
For the longest time, Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar has been trolled for having a Canadian citizenship and passport. The actor has now revealed what made him actually apply for it.
There are many reasons why Bollywood’s Khiladi Akshay Kumar is in the news from time to time-- upcoming releases, the speed with which he finishes his projects, his routine and discipline. Another reason is his infamous Canadian citizenship. Soon after he applied for the citizenship, netizens began trolling him and some even referred to him as ‘Canada Kumar’. Well, a few years ago he had revealed that he has applied for an Indian passport now, but felt hurt that he had to prove he’s an Indian.
In a recent interview with Lallantop, Akshay revealed the real reason why he ever applied for a Canadian citizenship. It was because he had delivered a string of back to back flop films. Akshay was quoted saying, “A few years ago, my films were not working. Almost 14-15 films had not worked so I thought I should probably move elsewhere and work there.” This was an idea suggested to him by a friend, because many people move to Canada for work but they are still Indians.
Akshay shared, “So I also thought that if destiny is not supporting me here then I should do something about it. I went there, applied for it (the citizenship) and got it.” But when things started looking up in his Bollywood career again, he decided to stay back in his country. The superstar went on to admit that he does have a Canadian passport, but he’s an Indian who pays all his taxes in his own country. He concluded, “A lot of people say things and they are allowed to. To them, I would just like to say that I am an Indian, and I will always be an Indian.”
Well, there you have it. On the work front, Akshay’s latest film Raksha Bandhan arrived in theatres on Rakhi this week. While it has received mixed reviews, it hasn’t done as well as expected on the box office.
