Kalki 2898 AD new poster
The makers of the upcoming Indian sci-fi epic, Kalki 2898 AD, unveiled a new poster on Friday featuring movie icon Amitabh Bachchan in an action avatar. In the film, which is inspired by Indian mythology, Amitabh's role is based on Ashwatthama, one of the major characters from the Mahabharata.
In the new poster, Amitabh is wrapped in a long shawl. In one hand, he holds a staff that likely has magical powers, and on the other, he holds a modern laser projectile. He stands triumphant on the battlefield with his rivals fallen on the ground and writhing in pain. The poster promises a tantalizing action set piece against the backdrop of a dystopian future.
Kalki 2898 AD is a highly anticipated movie, starring Telugu superstar Prabhas in the lead role. It is not just the most ambitious film in director-writer Nag Ashwin's career, but also in the history of Indian mainstream cinema. The film has been mounted on a massive scale at a whopping cost of Rs 600 crore.
Nag Ashwin even engineered and created a 6-ton beast of a car, which plays an important role in Kalki 2898 AD. The director has mixed elements of sci-fi with sprawling mythological stories. The film revolves around Lord Krishna's Kalki avatar. "The 6000 years behind 2898 comes to around 3102 BC, which is when they say the last avatar of Krishna passed," Nag Ashwin explained earlier, talking about the movie.
Nag Ashwin has also assembled a star-studded cast to support his ambitious project. Besides Prabhas and Amitabh Bachchan, the film also stars Kamal Haasan and Deepika Padukone. This film is said to be the start of a new cinematic universe, which is believed to become India's answer to Marvel.
The Kalki 2898 AD trailer is due to arrive in June, while the film will hit the screens on June 27.
