Aditi Rao Hydari reveals how she was cast in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat

Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar actress Aditi Rao Hydari has become a social media sensation because of her enchanting gajgamini walk in the series directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Before working with Bhansali in Heeramandi, Aditi Rao Hydari played the role of Mehrunnisa in his 2018 film Padmaavat. Aditi recently revealed that veteran actress Jaya Bachchan is the reason she got to play the role of Mehrunisa in Padmaavat.

Jaya Bachchan suggested Aditi should play Mehrunisa in Padmaavat

During a conversation with Humans of Bombay, Aditi was asked about her off-camera experiences of working in Padmaavat. Aditi then revealed that when Sanjay was wondering whom to choose for the role of Mehrunisa, Jaya Bachchan told him that Aditi Rao Hydari was his girl.

Speaking about her experience, Aditi said that before the shooting, director Sanjay Leela Bhansali told her that her character was a small part of the film but it would really move people and would be magical.

She also recounted that the first time she walked onto the sets of Padmaavat, she was mesmerised and felt overwhelmed.  Aditi also said that she confessed to Sanjay Leela Bhansali that she had earlier dreamt of working with him and director Mani Ratnam.

What Ranveer told Aditi during Padmaavat shoot?

Aditi said that her first scene was with Ranveer Singh and she knew him from earlier, even before both of them became actors. The actress recalled that before the first scene, Ranveer told her - 'Adu you know you are living the dream right. You just walked from a Mani Ratnam set to a Sanjay Leela Bhansali set.’

Speaking about director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Aditi said that she loves working with him as he creates this incredible atmosphere on sets and loves his actors. Aditi explained that everything Bhansali does comes out of extreme love and passion.

Aditi was seen playing the role of Bibbojaan in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Netflix series, Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. Aditi’s gajgamini walk has taken over the internet and she is receiving a lot of love for her timeless charm and stunning acting performance in the series.
