Suriya in and as Kanguva
Tamil superstar Suriya is pulling out all the stops to promote his upcoming film Kanguva, touted as the most expensive project of his career. His promotional efforts, spanning across the globe, aim to maximize the film's box office potential.
As a “front-loaded” film, Kanguva is expected to rely heavily on its opening day and weekend performance to secure major returns. To boost its commercial prospects, the producers have been working hard to secure extra screenings in Tamil Nadu, hoping to capitalize on the star’s massive fan base.

However, securing early-morning screenings in Tamil Nadu has been challenging since the state government introduced a ban on shows before 11 AM to reduce fan-related incidents, following the tragic death of a fan en route to an early morning screening of Thunivu in early 2023. While the government occasionally grants special permissions for extra shows on a case-by-case basis, Kanguva producers' recent request for 5 AM shows was denied. Instead, the government approved showings to start as early as 9 AM.
In contrast, other states are offering early screenings for Kanguva, with many theatres in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh planning shows as early as 4 AM. Suriya’s popularity in the Telugu states has sparked high demand for early showtimes, and the producers aim to take full advantage of the excitement there.
As Kanguva gears up for its November 14 worldwide release, early ticket sales are already trending strong. According to reports, the film has sold over Rs 1 crore in tickets for opening day in Kerala alone. Full advance bookings are expected soon, as producers wrap up profit-sharing negotiations with theater chains. With deals nearly finalized, Kanguva is set for a grand release, and its early trends indicate a highly anticipated debut.
