Ranbir Kapoor has made a diverse choice of films in his Bollywood career which began in 2007. While in the process of trying new things Ranbir has seen a few failures, Rocket Singh Salesman of the Year remains one of his flops that is today believed to be one of his most underrated movies.
The film which saw Ranbir don a turban and play a salesman, completes 13 years since its release today. While fans take to social media to celebrate the film, did you know that actress Katrina Kaif had once predicted the film’s box office failure when it released back in 2009.
The Shamit Amin directorial sees Ranbir turn into a shrewd businessman after being looked down open by his colleagues as a salesman. The actor delivered a fine performance and was also praised highly for it but it sadly didn’t translate into success in terms of earnings at the box office. Rocket Singh wrapped up business a meagre Rs. 33 crores at the ticket windows.
However, it was at the trailer launch of the Ranbir Kapoor’s debut production Jagga Jasoos that actress Katrina Kaif reveal that after having watched Rocket Singh, she had already candidly told the actor that the film would be a flop.
"I knew that Rocket Singh would be a flop. After watching the film, I called him and said that it's such a boring film,” Katrina had said at the event back in 2017. The actress went on to say that it hard to predict the fate of a film but as actors they can only take charge of the process.
At the same event Ranbir also spoke after Katrina about Rocket Singh and box office failures and revealed that he had though the movie to be his Munna Bhai M.B.B.S but it didn’t turn out to be the case.
"I cannot predict the box office success, but I know it's a good film. After Rocket Singh, I thought I made a Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. but then we all know that the film didn't work. So, as an actor, you cannot predict,” Ranbir said.
Ironically, Ranbir and Katrina’s film Jagga Jasoos, which was their last collaboration together, also turned out to be box office disaster despite being a brave attempt at storytelling.
