The revelations of the Hema Committee report have caused an earthquake in the Malayalam film industry, bringing some of its biggest names to their knees. However, when Superstar Rajinikanth was asked to share his comments on the report, he feigned ignorance.
"I don't know anything about it (Hema Committee report), sorry," he told reporters.
It seems that Rajinikanth did not want to comment on the matter, considering its sensitive nature. Perhaps he was concerned that his statements could be taken out of context and spark a new controversy.
In the aftermath of the Hema Committee report, there has been a significant demand for similar investigations across the Indian film industry. Many members of the Tamil film industry have also called for scrutiny to bring about systemic change and protect the rights of vulnerable members, especially women.
Recently, seasoned actresses Raadhika Sarathkumar and Kutti Padmini expressed solidarity with the findings of the Hema Committee report and acknowledged that similar practices are prevalent in the Tamil film industry. Tamil actor and Nadigar Sangam General Secretary Vishal has promised to set up a 10-member panel to investigate the working conditions for women in Tamil cinema and implement measures to ensure a safe environment for everyone in the industry.
Actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu also made a public request to the Telangana government to release the findings of the sub-committee report on sexual harassment and implement measures to create a safe working environment for women in the Telugu film industry. Besides Samantha, several prominent members of Telugu cinema, including Lakshmi Manchu, Nandini Reddy, and Suma, have made similar requests.
