Rajinikanth in Vettaiyan
Rajinikanth and TJ Gnanavel-starrer Vettaiyan, which was released during the Dussehra festive week, has seen a major dip in numbers due to the heavy rains in the Tamil Nadu region. Directed by TJ Gnanavel in his maiden collaboration with the Tamil superstar, the film opened to mixed reviews from critics. However, it has impressed audiences with its content-oriented subject, which is different from other Rajinikanth-starrers. On day 5, here’s how much the film has performed at the box office both globally and domestically:

According to industry trackers, Vettaiyan minted approximately Rs 32 crore on its opening day. On its first Monday, the film saw a massive dip in numbers due to the unprecedented rains that prevented audiences from reaching theaters. On day 5, the film earned around Rs 5.26 crore, bringing its total revenue to Rs 110 crore at the domestic box office.
Outside Tamil Nadu, the film continues to perform well. It recently surpassed Vijay’s The Greatest of All Time in lifetime collections in Kerala, earning Rs 13.5 crore in the state. In worldwide collections, the film currently stands at Rs 240 crore and is expected to cross Rs 300 crore if the rains clear in the cities.
Not Rana Daggubati, but Nani was the first choice for Natraj
A section of the audience criticized Rana Daggubati’s character in the film, calling the actor a misfit and stating that his role could have been played by anyone. However, did you know that director TJ Gnanavel first approached Nani and not Rana Daggubati for the role of Natraj? Yes, you read that correctly! The Saripodhaa Sanivaaram star was initially approached to play the corporate villain's role in the film; however, the former declined the role, which later went to Rana Daggubati. After this revelation, many praised Nani for not taking up the role and admired the actor for choosing a better script and role over the scale of the project.
Besides Rajinikanth and Rana Daggubati, the film boasts a star-studded cast, including Fahadh Faasil, Amitabh Bachchan, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, Dushara Vijayan, Kishore, Rohini, Rao Ramesh, Shaji Chen, Ramesh Thilak, Rakshan, and GM Sundar, among others.
