'Varisu' overtakes 'Bigil' to become Thalapathy Vijay's highest-grossing movie worldwide

Vijay 's first movie of 2023, was the Pongal release Varisu and now despite stiff competition from both Tamil and Telugu movies coming out at the same time has emerged on top.
The movie despite having mixed reviews from audiences and critics had become the highest-grossing movie of Vijay's Career dethroning his 2019 blockbuster Bigil.
The movie has so far grossed over 310 crores at the global box office beating out Bigil which grossed 305 worldwide.
In the domestic market, the movie has grossed over 178 crores, against the previous highest gross of Bigil which is around 171 crores, making Varisu the third-highest net collection for a Vijay movie in the domestic market.
Varisu was Thalapathy Vijay's first collaboration with noted Telugu director Vamshi Paidipally. Vamshi is known for directing many hits in the Telugu industry such as Munna, Oopiri, and the recent Mahesh Babu starrer Maharshi. Vamshi was able recreate his success in the Tamil industry as well.
In the movie, Vijay plays the son of a business tycoon who has to take over the company after a series of unfortunate events.
Varisu will also mark the first time the actor will be paired with Rashmika Mandanna. The movie wrapped production in September and boasts an ensemble cast that includes Prabhu, R. Sarathkumar, Prakash Raj, Sangeetha, Khushbu, Ganesh Venkatraman, and Yogi Babu.
The movie has an estimated budget of 200 crores and will be released in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi. With T-series acquiring the rights to the Hindi Version.
The success of the movie has delayed the OTT release of the movie, and there is a new report that Vijay will be working with director Vamshi for 'Thalapathy 69'.
Currently, Vijay is on the sets of Leo in Kashmir. Leo is the third installment in the Lokesh Kanagaraj Universe (LCU) and is scheduled to hit theaters on 20 October 2023.
