Twitter is busy cancelling all Bollywood remakes after watching Kartik Aaryan's Shehzada, will it be a lesson learnt?

Fans had high hopes pinned on Katrik Aaryan’s Shehzada which sees him stepping into Allu Arjun’s shoes in a big-budget Hindi remake of Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo. As the film opened in cinemas on Friday to disappointing reviews and a slew of accusations of being a frame to frame copy of the original, Twitter has now decided to cancel remakes completely.

While Shehzada eyes an opening weekend of over Rs. 20 crores, Twitterati is on Bollywood tail for its obsession with remakes of South films, foreign films and more. While remakes have thrived and succeeded in Bollywood time and again, with the latest being Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam 2, Shehzada is being seen as a one of the failed attempts that has made room for criticism of the whole remake culture over all.

Last year alone, Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha, a remake of Tom Hanks’ iconic Hollywood film Forrest Gump forced the Bollywood superstar into taking a haitus. The film performed miserably at the box office despite being lauded by a section of those who had seen the film.

With Kartik Aaryan breaching the remake space with Shehzada, however, folks seem to have had enough. While a section of Twitter appeals to stop remakes completely in favour of originals, Aditya Roy Kapur’s web series (also a remake) adapted from Tom Hiddleston’s limited series The Night Manager is busy earning appreciation on OTT after being released on the same day as Shehzada.

Fans of Kartik are also appealing to the actor for never signing remakes again as he remains at the centre of criticism for trying to ape Allu Arjun from the Telugu original in Shehzada. At the box office, Shehzada has earned close to Rs. 13 crores in two days since it released.

With Shehzada getting bashed brutally, concerns now rise for Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi starrer Selfiee which is a remake of the Malayam film Driving License and arrives in cinemas coming Friday.
