Salman Khan’s Tiger 3, the fifth instalment in the Yash Raj Spy universe, ended its theatrical run with an impressive Rs 464 crore worldwide collection. The film didn’t match up to the hype it created, owing to its release at the time of World Cup 2023. It was not only the reason behind its underperformance, the film’s screenplay, characterisations and direction also added to its average reception.
Directed by Maneesh Sharma, Tiger 3 is now available on OTT streaming platform Amazon Prime Video. Besides Salman, the film also stars Katrina Kaif and Emraan Hashmi in pivotal roles. Shah Rukh Khan made a special appearance in the film, while Hrithik Roshan appeared in the post-credit scene. With certain high moments, the film also has some low moments especially Tiger's face-to-face with a villain. Though the movie is over 150 minutes long, the choppy screenplay fails to keep you on the edge of your seat.
Further, the characters including Katrina’s Zoya are not that intriguing and layered. Even Emraan as the antagonist is a waste without any fighting scenes but long monologues. Dimple Kapadia and Revathy were underutilised because of their inconsequential characters. It is out-and-out Salman Khan’s film which leaves no room for any thrill and chills moment.
Director Maneesh’s direction was not upto the mark despite interesting plot. The sequences seem quite twisted, slow-paced and over-stretched at times. The excessive use of VFX, boring dialogues, and flat humour make it only a one -time watch movie. Recently, the well-known filmmaker Sanjay Gupta decoded the underperformance of Tiger 3. He said that had Tiger 3 been released ahead of Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan, the film would have done better at the box office. Though he didn’t comment on the quality of the film but pointed at how things would have been different for Salman Khan’s film.
