Thangalaan vs Demonte Colony 2: Box office battle heats up in Tamil Nadu

Tamil star Chiyaan Vikram's latest movie Thangalaan is performing well in ticket sales worldwide, exceeding audience expectations. The producers announced on Sunday that the three-day collection of Thangalaan has crossed Rs 53 crore. Judging by ongoing trends, Thangalaan is poised for a fantastic run in theatres on Sunday, potentially posting the biggest-ever opening day collection in Vikram's career.

In Tamil Nadu, Thangalaan is facing serious competition from the horror drama Demonte Colony 2. The sequel to the 2015 hit opened in cinemas alongside Thangalaan and initially received fewer screens. However, over the past two days, it has dramatically improved its performance, as evident from the increasing number of shows. The film is experiencing high demand on ticket booking platforms and is expected to post better numbers than Thangalaan on Sunday at the Tamil Nadu box office.

"#DemonteColony2 finally takes the lead over #Thangalaan in advance sales for Sunday in Tamil Nadu, with both movies grossing around Rs 2.08 crore and Rs 1.95 crore, respectively," stated Cinetrak.

Thangalaan had a massive opening of Rs 12 crore in Tamil Nadu on the Independence Day holiday, while Demonte Colony 2 debuted at the box office with a gross of about Rs 3 crore. Demonte Colony 2 has managed to close the gap, thanks to positive reviews and the movie's strong recall value.

Meanwhile, Thangalaan is holding strong in other states, particularly in the Telugu-speaking regions. The film is outperforming the two latest Telugu releases, Mr. Bachan and Double iSmart.

The producers have been investing heavily in promotions in the Telugu states to boost the movie's popularity. Vikram has dedicated significant time to participating in the post-release promotions of the movie.
