Studio Green announced on Wednesday that the release date for Suriya’s highly anticipated film Kanguva will be revealed on Thursday at 11 AM. According to industry sources, the film is expected to hit theatres in the second week of November.
Producer KE Gnanavel Raja has been strategic in selecting a release window that would allow Kanguva to have an uncontested run at the box office. With Singham Again, starring Ajay Devgn, slated for a Diwali release at the end of October, Kanguva’s producers seem to have found the perfect November release window.
The decision to finalize Kanguva’s release date came soon after it was confirmed that Singham Again would debut in late October. This timing opens up the second week of November for Kanguva’s nationwide release.
Meanwhile, Ajith Kumar’s Vidaamuyarchi is still in production. Actor Arjun Sarja, who plays a key role in the film, recently stated that the project would require another two to three months, taking a November release off the table. As of now, Vidaamuyarchi is likely targeting a Christmas release in December.
Originally, Kanguva was set to release on October 10, but the date was postponed after Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan also chose the same day. The producers of Kanguva were unwilling to divide screens and attention in Tamil Nadu and opted to delay the release.
Suriya explained the decision, emphasizing respect for Rajinikanth’s legacy. “On October 10, Rajini sir's Vettaiyan is coming out. Rajini sir is my senior. He started acting the year I was born and has been the identity of Tamil cinema for the last 50 years. I believe, on that date, only his film should come out. This is our respect towards the Superstar,” Suriya said.
This move, however, left some fans of Suriya disappointed, sparking outrage on social media. Despite the backlash, the producers are committed to releasing Kanguva under optimal circumstances to maximize its chances for success. Directed by Siva, Kanguva is the most expensive film of Suriya’s career, and its release timing is crucial for its box office prospects.
