Suriya in and as Kanguva
Director Siva recently expressed deep gratitude to Tamil superstar Suriya for his unwavering commitment and enthusiasm while filming Kanguva, which is touted to be the most ambitious project of both their careers. Siva revealed that the team faced numerous challenges, including gruelling shoots in the dense forests of Kodaikanal that required trekking through dangerous paths, with filming days starting as early as 3:30 AM. Through it all, Suriya’s energy never wavered, and he embraced the difficulties with excitement.
"Only someone driven by pure passion can deliver this level of performance," Siva told Behindwoods. "Suriya climbed hills, trekked through forests, and worked in every condition—whether it was underwater shots or night shoots—without ever complaining. We filmed across five to six terrains, and he brought joy and excitement to every moment."

The director also shared how Suriya helped maintain a positive atmosphere on set, lightening the mood for everyone. "There are many surprises in this movie," Siva teased. "As I kept narrating the story to him, I could see his excitement grow. After I finished narrating up to the interval, he told me, 'Siva, the visuals and ideas you shared with me are unlike anything I have seen before.'"
Kanguva is the most expensive film of Suriya’s career, with a reported budget exceeding Rs 300 crore. The film is set to capitalize on the pan-India trend, with the producers sparing no expense in bringing Siva’s vision to life. Producer Gnanavel Raja echoed Siva's sentiments, saying, "The moment I heard the full narration, I knew I wanted to make Siva’s vision come alive without any compromise. I believe this movie will cement both Siva and Suriya as an important director and actor duo. I am eagerly awaiting the release."
Originally slated for an October 10 release, Kanguva has been postponed to November 14 to avoid a clash with Superstar Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan. The film, which has been over two years in the making, promises to be one of the most visually grand and unique projects in Tamil cinema.
