Director Siva about Kanguva
Tamil superstar Suriya recently revealed that he was initially overwhelmed by self-doubt about whether he could fit the role of a warrior in Kanguva, feeling his frame might fall short compared to towering stars like Prabhas or Rana Daggubati. Ironically, it was precisely this physique that drew director Siva to cast Suriya in the film’s lead role.
Siva shared that he was captivated by Suriya’s physical agility, which inspired him to design intense stunt sequences on challenging terrains that would test endurance and strength. “Suriya is physically very fit and very agile. He’s always in warrior mode, and you feel like you can make him do anything. His physical fitness is the main reason why I was so excited to work with him on Kanguva,” Siva told Galatta Plus. “Also, Kanguva battles a war both outside and within. I could see that Suriya would excel in this role, which is both physically and mentally demanding.”

Reflecting on his experience with other Tamil superstars, Siva discussed his previous collaborations with Rajinikanth in Annaatthe and with Ajith Kumar in Veeram and Vedhalam. It's noteworthy that his films with Ajith played a significant role in establishing his reputation as a bankable director. “Ajith sir is magnanimous and very giving. I always keep his personal image and screen image in mind while writing roles for him,” Siva said. He also spoke fondly of Rajinikanth: “I grew up watching Rajini sir, and he feels like family. I still remember struggling to buy tickets for the first day, the first show of his films.”
According to Siva, Ajith magnanimity, Rajinikanth's familiarity and fan connection, and Karthi’s fun-loving nature, all define their appeal. Yet, he observed that one trait binds them all: their professionalism. “Everyone arrives on time to the sets, respects the technicians, and places full trust in the director, and I am deeply grateful for that.”
Kanguva, touted as the most expensive film of Suriya’s career, is set for release on November 14.
