Tamil star Dhanush's latest movie Raayan is doing well in theatres. The film is garnering a lot of praise for creating equal space for all characters, instead of just being hero-centric. Sundeep Kishan was also a big beneficiary of Dhanush's generosity as a storyteller.
Sundeep Kishan plays Muthuvelraayan, one of the brothers of Dhanush's Kathavaraayan, in Raayan. He gets to showcase his acting chops, making it one of the significant performances in his filmography. However, did you know that Sundeep was not Dhanush's first choice for Muthuvelraayan?

According to industry sources, Dhanush, who has written and directed it, wanted to cast Vishnu Vishal in that role. However, Vishnu at the time was busy shooting for Lal Salaam, which was helmed by Aishwarya Rajinikanth. Vishnu was not able to accommodate Dhanush's offer, and that role went to Sundeep.
Lal Salaam, which starred Superstar Rajinikanth in a key cameo, tanked at the box office, despite garnering positive reviews for Vishnu's performance. Raayan, meanwhile, has given a much-needed confidence boost to Sundeep's career.
Not just in Tamil Nadu, Sundeep's performance is also a big hit with movie-goers in the Telugu state. Sundeep gets to play a very dynamic character in Raayan, and his actions and ill-informed decisions play a crucial role in charting the course of the narrative. It won't be wrong to say that it's the simmering tension between Kathavaraayan and Muthuvelraayan that drives the drama.
Sundeep also shares a crackling chemistry with Aparna Balamurali, adding depth and dimension to his character.
Raayan tells the story of an elder brother, who dedicates his whole life to tending for the needs of his siblings. Things take a drastic turn, when Kathavaraayan and Muthuvelraayan fall into the trap of the main villain Sethuraman, played SJ Suryah.
Raayan has received mostly positive reviews, and is doing very well in theatres.
