S.S. Rajamouli to push RRR release due to Omicron threat?
With the Omicron threat looming over Indian cinema, S.S. Rajamouli has reacted to rumours of his film RRR getting postponed again.

Indian cinema has once again plunged into chaos as the rising Omicron threat in the country could soon mean the shutting down of cinemas in the country. With Jersey already having postponed its release indefinitely, recently rumours of S.S. Rajamouli pushing RRR further emerged.
The pan-Indian film starring Ram Charan and Jr. NTR has a huge buzz especially in the South Indian circuits has already faced delays due to Covid-19 previously. The film booked the earliest slot of 2022, 7 January for arrival in cinemas.

However, the concerns over cinemas screens remaining open got very real as Delhi shut down theatres based on a graded action plan due to rising Covid-19 cases and the fear is that Maharashtra might follow suit soon enough.
Dispelling all rumours about RRR’s plans of postponing release amidst all this chaos, trade analyst Taran Adarsh received a confirmation from filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli that the movie will release as planned.

Evidently, the South market is bigger for RRR unlike Jersey which will faces losses with theatres remaining shut in Delhi. But RRR would have to face losses too in the Hindi version if the cinemas continue to remain shut or in Maharashtra’s case operate at 50% capacity only.
RRR also stars Ajay Devgn and Alia Bhatt which is a big draw for the Hindi speaking audience. The huge success of Bahubali also has established a fanbase for S.S. Rajamouli in the Hindi speaking belt.
Now that it has been clarified that RRR will proceed as planned, the film could benchmark the Omicron threat in terms of business for the other big releases lined up after it in January including biggies like Radhe Shyam, Gehraiyaan, Prithviraj and Attack which so far seem to be proceeding with their release dates as planned much like Rajamouli’s film.
