After mesmerizing audiences and keeping them on the edge of their seats in theatres, RJ Balaji’s latest Tamil prison break thriller Sorgavaasal has finally locked its OTT release date. Directed by debutant Siddharth Vishwanath, the film revolves around a convict and how his experiences in prison transform him, leading to chaos.

As announced earlier, Netflix has purchased the digital rights to the film and has revealed that it will be released on December 27, 2024. Sharing the news on their social media handles, the OTT platform wrote, “Naraga vaasal la Yeman. Sorgavaasal la Parthiban. Puriyala? December 27 anniku, Sorgavaasal thorakkudhu. Paakalama? Watch Sorgavaasal on Netflix, out December 27.”

The film follows Parthiban, an innocent inmate framed for murder. A prison riot leads to an investigation uncovering corruption, power struggles, and manipulation in Madras Central Prison. Parthiban navigates betrayal and violence while seeking justice amidst the chaos.
The film is co-written by Thamizh Praba, Ashwin Ravichandran, and Siddharth Vishwanath, and features an ensemble cast including RJ Balaji, Selvaraghavan, Natty, Karunaas, Saniya Iyappan, Sharaf-U-Dheen, Hakkim Shah, Balaji Sakthivel, Anthonythasan, Ravi Raghavendra, and Samuel Robinson.

Following the initial theatrical release, many viewers felt that Sorgavaasal was an excellent prison thriller, praising its well-written story, strong emotional connection, and gripping screenplay. Audiences heaped praise on RJ Balaji's performance in a new role, Selvaraghavan's portrayal of Siga, and the film's technical aspects, including the impactful BGM and Anirudh's special track, despite some minor lags and violent scenes.
