Kamal Haasan and director Shankar.
Filmmaker Shankar is known for creating grand spectacles. He is one of the first film directors in India to have effectively used special effects and paved the way for younger directors to dream bigger and push the limits in terms of filmmaking technology, scale, and budgets. Not for nothing is he celebrated as India's James Cameron.
Shankar still nurtures the desire to keep making bigger and bigger movies that aim to add more speed to the momentum that Indian movies have been experiencing with blockbusters like RRR, Kalki 2898 AD, and recent performances at the Cannes Film Festival.
Shankar revealed that he has three big ideas in the works that would take the industry to the next level. "I am working on a lot of ideas. One is a historical film, another one is a James Bond-like film, and there is also another science-fiction film, 2012. These are all my plans. All are high-budget and big on VFX," Shankar told PinkVilla.

Currently, Shankar is busy promoting his new movie, Indian 2, which is due in cinemas on July 12. The director has made a sequel to his 1996 blockbuster, Indian. With the sequel, he's bringing Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan's iconic character Senapathy, aka Indian Thatha, back to the big screen after a gap of 28 years.
While Shankar is in India promoting Indian 2 and also managing the post-production work, Kamal is touring around the world meeting fans and media in the run-up to the movie's grand release next week.
The filmmakers have confirmed that Indian 3 will be released in cinemas just six months after the release of Indian 2.
In the meantime, Shankar is also directing Game Changer, which stars Telugu superstar Ram Charan in the lead role. The film is expected to arrive in cinemas next year.
