Sardar 2: Karthi and PS Mithran’s much-awaited sequel begins rolling | Check out puja pics

After much anticipation and speculation, Karthi and director PS Mithran's most-awaited film, Sardar 2, has begun production. The film was officially launched today, July 12, 2024, with a puja ceremony. Sharing pictures from the ceremony, the makers wrote, “The auspicious pooja for #Karthi starrer #Sardar2 took place recently, and the shooting of the film is scheduled to start on July 15, 2024, on grand sets in Chennai.” For the unversed, the upcoming film is the sequel to the actor-director duo’s 2022 blockbuster, Sardar.

The makers announced that the film will begin its first schedule of shooting on July 15, 2024.

Rumored plot of Sardar 2

Although the makers have not confirmed it, grapevine suggests that the upcoming sequel will deal with drug trafficking and aim to raise awareness about how drug use negatively affects society. It is said that the film will try to create awareness among the youth about how drugs impact society. While an official update is still pending, the storyline has led fans to draw comparisons with Lokesh Kanagaraj’s LCU franchise, which similarly focuses on the mission of creating a drug-free society.

Is Sardar 2 going to be Karthi’s most expensive film?

Earlier reports indicated that the producers are scaling up and allocating a massive budget for the movie. Sardar 2 is slated to be the most expensive film in Karthi's career so far. The sequel to the 2022 blockbuster will be bigger and better.

While the first installment featured Rajisha Vijayan and Raashii Khanna in the female leads, the makers have yet to disclose the details about the potential female leads for the sequel. According to reports, two Hindi actresses are said to be cast in the film, with an official announcement expected soon. Yuvan Shankar Raja is scoring the original background score and soundtrack for the sequel, replacing G. V. Prakash Kumar, who was the composer for Sardar. George C. Williams, who handled the cinematography for part one, will be returning for the sequel.
