Much-anticipated release of the year, Salaar has spelled its magic over audiences with its high-octane action sequence and star power of Prabhas. The opening box office numbers are out and it is thunderous. The Prashanth Neel directorial registered a whopping Rs 95 crore collection on its first day of release. The film snatched Jawan’s record to take the box office throne this year.
According to the industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned 95.00 Cr India net on its first day for all languages. The Telugu version contributed a staggering Rs 70 crore net to the overall collection. This is a testament to Prabhas’ fandom in his homeland. The film had an 64 percent Telugu occupancy, and 56 percent Hindi occupancy. The action-packed saga shows no sign of stopping as it has already collected nearly Rs 20 crore on its second day, according to the advance booking data available on Sacnilk.

So far, the biggest opener of the year was Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan(Rs 75 crore) but Salaar easily shattered its record. The film also redeemed Prabhas at the box office as his previous releases Adipurush, Radhe Shyam and Saaho were duds. Prabhas’ star power transcended boundaries as Salaar worked tremendously in Hindi language as well. At the global box office, Salaar minted Rs 175 crore, making Prabhas first actor to have four Rs 100 crore openers in his filmography.

Salaar revolves around two childhood friends who find themselves in a web of power-politics. Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran play childhood friends— Deva and Vardha respectively. Besides them, the film also has Jagapathi Babu, Shruti Haasan, Sriya Reddy, Eashwari Rao, John Vijay and Tinnu Anand among others. Backed by Vijay Kiragandur under Hombale Films, the film was released on December 22, a day after Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki which lags behind it in terms of box office collection.
