Ahead of the release of the much-awaited Akshay Kumar starrer OMG 2, the first review is out. Movie critic and film business analyst, Taran Adarsh has termed the movie ‘courageous’ in his review released on Instagram. Adarsh has given four stars to the satirical comedy-drama film which is a spiritual sequel to the 2012 film of the same name.
The film critic has given a big thumbs-up to the performances of Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi, Yami Gautam and Pawan Malhotra. The film revolves around the controversial subject of sex education in Indian schools. “Bold. Brave. Progressive… It conveys what it intends to without mincing words… #OMG2 has a captivating plot, gripping screenwriting and solid dialogues, but what enhances the impact are the towering performances,” he wrote. “#AkshayKumar is in terrific form, #PankajTripathi delivers his career-best act, #YamiGautam is fantastic and #PawanMalhotra excels,” he added.
According to Taran, the movie has a few unforgettable moments, especially the courtroom sequences. However, he also believes that such dramatic scenes also get talk-heavy at times. Besides OMG 2, Taran also talked about Sunny Deol's Gadar 2 which is also scheduled to be released on the same day. Notably, the sequel to Gadar: Ek Prem Katha has outsold Akshay Kumar's OMG 2 in advance bookings by a huge margin. “#OMG2 faces a mighty opponent in #Gadar2… Clearly, this is not a film that will commence its journey with great numbers at the #Boxoffice, but has the power to grow with strong word of mouth,” he added.
Meanwhile, OMG 2 has been certified A. It is being released with 27 changes made after it was sent to the Censor Board's Revision Committee. The committee reportedly suggested an adult certificate for the reason that certain topics in the movie are unsuitable for kids. Helmed by Amit Rai, the film is scheduled to be released on 11 August 2023.
