2023 was a wonderful year for South beauty Nayanthara, one of the biggest female superstars of our country. After shaking up the box office with Atlee’s Jawan co-starring Bollywood’s Baadshah Shah Rukh Khan, she took over silver screens with Iraivan. Nayanthara closed the year with a bang when she won hearts with her performance in Annapoorani: The Goddess of Food. It arrived in theatres on 1st December and made its way to streaming giant Netflix before New Years’ Eve. However, soon after its OTT release the film and makers were accused of promoting love jihad. An FIR was also filed against makers for the same.
As a result of this controversy, Annapoorani: The Goddess of Food was removed from Netflix much to the dismay of several movie lovers. Nayanthara has now broken her silence over the film’s removal from OTT and has issued an apology on social media. The actress shared, “Jai Shri Ram I am writing this note with a heavy heart and a genuine desire to address the recent turn of events concerning our film, 'Annapoorni'.” She went on to write: “In our sincere attempt to share a positive message, we may have inadvertently caused hurt. We did not expect the removal of a censored film, previously showcased in theatres, from the OTT platform. My team and I never intended to hurt anyone's sentiments and we understand that the gravity of this issue.”

Nayathara added, “Being someone who wholely believes in God and frequently visits temples across the country, it is the last thing I would intentionally do.” In the comment section below, many fans who have watched the film came out in the actress’ support. For instance, one social media user shared, “I can’t believe people enjoy movies like Animal while they wanna raise issues with respectfully showing 2 different cultures working as 1 culture to be an allegation”, whereas another comment read: “This was not necessary. I watched the movie Annapoorni. I would say it was a really a nice movie for foodies. I couldn’t find anything else!”
