Nana Patekar clarifies his stand on Tanushree Dutta’s MeToo allegations, says ‘It was all a lie'
If there was something for which the year 2018 will be forever remembered for, then, it has to be the #MeToo movement. For the unversed, the said movement, which literally shook the world, was started by Tarana Burke, an activist, community organizer, and an executive by profession. This was then followed by many women daring to step forward and call out the culprits with the help of the hashtag MeToo. Bollywood was no different.
Bollywood actress and former Miss India Universe (year 2004) Tanushree Dutta was one of the first persons to join the MeToo movement when she accused her co-actor Nana Patekar of sexually molesting whilst filming a song for a film. Supporting her claim was Janice Sequeira, then-journalist-now YouTuber, by saying that she was an eyewitness to the alleged harassment. Needless to say, this allegation sent shockwaves across Bollywood.

After having maintained a stoic silence for many years now, the veteran actor Nana Patekar has now spoken about the allegations on him by Tanushree Dutta amidst the MeToo movement wave. In an interview with The Lallantop, Nana Patekar spoke about the allegations which Tanushree had levied on him by saying, “I knew that it was all a lie. That's why I didn't get angry. When everything was a lie, why should I be angry? And all those things are old. They have happened. What can we talk about them?”>
The senior actor continued that, while everyone knew the truth and that there was nothing he could say at that time when nothing like this happened! He continued saying, “Suddenly, someone says that you did this, you did that. What would I have answered to all these things? Should I have said that I didn't do this? I know the truth that I didn't do anything."
Readers may recall that, besides Nana Patekar, Tanushree Dutta had also called out the song’s choreographer Ganesh Acharya in the #MeToo movement. And the film in question was Horn OK Pleasss, which was directed by Rakesh Sarang.
