Mrs Teaser: Sanya Malhotra as housewife manages aspiration and patriarchy; netizens ask, 'Why remake such a good film?'

Sanya Malhotra on Wednesday unveiled the teaser of her upcoming film Mrs, the Hindi remake of the Malayalam drama The Great Indian Kitchen. The short clip offers a glimpse of a housewife who embarks on a pursuit to discover her identity while managing the demands of the household. Sharing the teaser on Instagram, Sanya wrote, “All set to inspire, move and spark conversations about the challenges & triumphs faced by women globally at the world stage! We are happy to announce our film #Mrs, a captivating story of strength & resilience, will have its World Premiere at #TalinnBlackNightsFilmFestival on 17th November.”

She also informed fans that the upcoming film has been selected under the Critics’ Pick Competition category at the film festival. As soon as the teaser surfaced, the netizens were quick to notice that film is a copy of the Great Indian Kitchen. “Looks good but atleast acknowledge that it's a remake of Great Indian Kitchen,” wrote a user. “This is giving me ‘The Great Indian Kitchen’ vibe,” added nother user. “There was no needed to copy the original first you can’t match the how authentic the original was second as an actor you can’t be close to nimisha and I don’t think right now there’s anyone who can even imitate suraj so why you guys do this ? Why can’t you do original work ?” questioned a netizen.

“If this is an official remake, why not mention that? That way people who wants to watch the original Malayalam film 'The Great Indian Kitchen' could watch that and both films would get their own share of appreciation. A Bollywood remake can get the message to a lot more people if done well, but please give credits to the original as well,” reacted another netizen.

Directed by Arati Kadav, Sanya plays the lead role, while Nishant Dahiya and Kanwaljit Singh features in supporting cast. Presented by Jio Studios in association with Baweja Studios, the film is produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Harman Baweja and Pammi Baweja.
