L2: Empuraan, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2019 blockbuster Lucifer, starring Mohanlal, is gearing up for a massive release next year. According to trade sources, producer Antony Perumbavoor has already begun coordinating with exhibitors and theatres across Kerala for a grand launch on March 27, 2025, marking exactly six years since Lucifer hit the screens.
After the phenomenal success of Lucifer, which became one of the highest-grossing films in Malayalam cinema history, expectations are sky-high for L2: Empuraan. The sequel promises to elevate the Lucifer franchise to greater heights, both in terms of box-office performance and cinematic scale.

The first film followed Stephen Nedumpally, an influential political figure who is later revealed to be Khureshi-Ab'raam, a notorious international crime lord. While Lucifer only hinted at Khureshi-Ab'raam’s full capabilities, L2: Empuraan is expected to delve deeper into his character and the enigmatic backstory.
Prithviraj, who also plays a lead role, is helming this ambitious sequel. He made his directorial debut with Lucifer and followed it with Bro Daddy (2022), a comedy that reunited him with Mohanlal. L2: Empuraan will be his third directorial venture.
Scripted by Murali Gopy, L2: Empuraan is set to explore new international landscapes, with portions shot in the UK, USA, Mexico, and Russia. The film will feature an impressive ensemble cast, including Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Sachin Khedekar, Manoj K. Jayan, and Bobby Simha.
With such high stakes, L2: Empuraan is expected to be a game-changer for the Malayalam film industry, pushing it further onto the global stage. The Malayalam film industry has regained its momentum at the box office, with films collectively generating a whopping Rs 1500 crore in global ticket sales this year so far. L2: Empuraan is expected to set a new benchmark when it hits theatres.
