Updated : November 29, 2022 03:45 PM ISTMalayalam movie fans have something to be excited about as Mohanlal took to Instagram to announce the official release date for the highly anticipated 4K remaster.
Spadikam
The 1995 movie directed by Bhadran was one the biggest hits of the superstar's career, with the movie still a part of Kerala's culture even after 28 years.
While we knew the 4K remaster had been completed recently, it was today that the actor took to Instagram to announce that the movie will be hitting the big screen on February 9, 2023.
This will be the first time a remaster of a Malayalam movie gets a worldwide release previously Mohanlal 's 2000 action blockbuster Narasimham was also remastered but only received a limited-time screening in Dubai.
In Sapdikam Mohanala played the role of Thomas Chacko a.k.a. Aadu Thoma who became a truck driver and local goon because of his troubled relationship with his strict and overbearing father C. P. Chacko, a retired Mathematics teacher.
In the post, Mohanlal said, " The Aadu Thoma that you and I held close to our hearts is returning to the big screen with updated visuals in a 4K remaster which will hit theaters worldwide on February 9, 2023."
The movie was the biggest hit of 1995 and grossed over 8 crores at the Boxoffice which adjusted to today's inflation would be around 50 crores and was remade in Telugu, Tamil, and Kannada.
The movie had an ensemble cast that included Thilakan, Urvashi, Spadikam George, K. P. A. C. Lalitha, Rajan P. Dev, Nedumudi Venu, Chippy, and V. K. Sreeraman.
The movie also has an extended cameo from sliver screen scarlet Silk Smitha who played the role of Laila and appeared alongside Mohanlal in the hit song "Ezhimala Poonchola".
According to director Bhadran, the remaster cost around two crores and was initially planned to be released way back in 2020 but had to delay due to the Pandemic.
No doubt the movie will be a big success at the box office as remastered versions of Malayalam movie classics have long been in demand and hopefully, the success of the Sapdiakm re-release will encourage others to do the same.
