Varun Tej’s upcoming period crime drama Matka is all set to hit the big screens. Directed by Karuna Kumar, the film stars Varun Tej in the lead role, with Meenakshi Chaudhary playing the female lead. The movie is based on the life of the gambler Ratan Khetri, also known as the Matka King. The Varun Tej starrer Matka is set for a grand release on November 14, 2024. The film will lock horns with Suriya and Bobby Deol's highly anticipated fantasy film Kanguva at the box office.

Based on a typical rags-to-riches story, the film's trailer begins with shots of Varun Tej's character, as the voiceover compares him to a circus ringmaster who controls everything to his tune. The trailer then delves into the life of Vasu, played by Varun, who builds his Matka empire through gambling. The actor sports multiple looks, as the trailer spans over a period of 24 years in his career as the Matka King.
Matka plot
Matka, set in Visakhapatnam between 1958 and 1982, is loosely inspired by real events in the life of Ratan Khetri. It chronicles 24 years in the life of Vasu, a prominent Matka gambler and gangster. Khetri is known for transforming Matka, a form of gambling that originated in Mumbai in 1962, into India’s most popular betting game, building a nationwide gambling empire that he controlled for decades.

Directed and written by Karuna Kumar, the film stars Varun Tej, Meenakshi Chaudhary, Saloni Aswani, Satyam Rajesh, P. Ravi Shankar, Kishore, Naveen Chandra, and Ajay Ghosh, among others. Nora Fatehi will be making her Telugu debut with this film. On the technical front, the film has music composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar, cinematography by A. Kishore Kumar, and editing handled by Karthika Srinivas. The movie is produced by Vijender Reddy Teegala and Rajani Talluri under the banners of Vyra Entertainments and SRT Entertainments.
