Following months of anticipation, it was confirmed on Friday that a biopic based on the life of late legendary actress Madhubala is actually in the works. Director Jasmeet K Reen, known for directing the much acclaimed film Darlings featuring Alia Bhatt and Vijay Varma, will lead the project.
The announcement was made by producers Sony Pictures International Productions and Brewing Thoughts Pvt. Ltd, with co-production from Madhubala's sisters Madhur Brij Bhushan and Arvind Kumar Malviya under their banner, Madhubala Ventures. The makes shared a post on instagram and wrote,"Exciting News! Fondly referred to as the Venus of Indian Cinema, Madhubala charmed millions with her enduring grace, remarkable talent, and magnetic on-screen presence. The studio is crafting her cinematic narrative, intending to shed light on her unmatched abilities, significant impact on the film industry, and the hurdles she faced as a woman in the entertainment industry of her time.

Throughout her illustrious two-decade career, Madhubala appeared in around 60 films and was regarded as one of the most successful actresses of her era. Recognized for her elegance and memorable roles, Madhubala left her mark in movies like Mr and Mrs 55, Half Ticket, Mughal-e-Azam, Mahal, and Badal, among many others.
The announcement follows reports suggesting that fashion designer Manish Malhotra is also preparing a film centered on Madhubala, featuring Kriti Sanon in the lead role.
