Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan likely to shut shop before touching the Rs 50 crore mark

Aamir Khan starrer Laal Singh Chaddha and Akshay Kumar ’s Raksha Bandhan see no respite as they both witnessed a monumental crash on Tuesday. Despite being released on the festive occasion of Raksha Bandhan and Independence Day, the films failed to pull audiences to cinemas. The collection of both the films went further down to Rs 2.50 crore on Day 6.

The Advait Chandan directorial opened at Rs 11.70 crore earnings at the box office. Considering the star power of Aamir, it was rather shocking to believe that the film registered low business even on holidays. On the second day, the collection dropped to Rs 7.26 crore, followed by Rs 9 crore and Rs 10 crore on Saturday and Sunday respectively. It was expected that Monday’s collection might see an upward trend owing to the Independence Day holiday but surprisingly the film fell flat earning Rs 7.87 crore. The collection saw a brutal crash on Tuesday collecting a meager Rs 2.50 crore, taking the total collection to Rs 49 crore.

Similarly, the collection of Aanand L Rai’s Raksha Bandhan also dropped to Rs 2-2.25 crore on Tuesday in spite of positive reviews. The film opened at Rs 8.20 crore, and the total six days collection so far stands somewhere between Rs 35-36 crore. Even after five days, Both the films failed to rake in Rs 50 crore. As per reports, several shows have been cancelled because of low occupancy.

Speaking of Laal Singh Chaddha, it is the Hindi remake of the Hollywood hit Forrest Gump. The film revolves around a simple man and his extraordinary journey. It stars Aamir in the titular role, while Kareena Kapoor Khan, Naga Chaitanya, and Mona Singh feature in pivotal roles. On the other hand, Raksha Bandhan is a story about an elder brother who struggles to get his four sisters married. Starring Akshay in the lead role, the film has Bhumi Pednekar, Sadia Khateeb, Sahejmeen Kaur, Smrithi Srikanth, and Deepika Khanna in prominent roles. Both the films became the victim of the boycotting culture, which supposedly affected their box office collections.
