Kurangu Pedal trailer - Go down memory lane to carefree summer days with friends

The trailer for the upcoming children’s film Kurangu Pedal is out. The makers of the film took to their social media handles to unveil the new trailer for the movie, which is as refreshing as the title. The trailer begins with a bunch of young boys who are determined to learn how to ride a cycle. The movie takes place in a small village in Salem named Katheri, where, during the summer break, a group of school kids spend as much time as possible playing outside. 

However, at the end of the trailer, one of the boys goes missing and his father and friends go looking for him. In the opening credits, the narrator offers a unique disclaimer: "Playing games is a healthy habit. Playing games brings us happiness and improves our lives. It is inhumane to take time from playing games to teach math." This dialogue replaces the standard smoking and drinking disclaimer. Overall, the film promises to take you down memory lane, to a time in our youth where we rode cycles as kids with our friends.

Kurangu Pedal is directed by Kamalakannan, who is known for movies like Madhubaanakadai and Vattam. The film stars Kaali Venkat in the lead role and is bankrolled under actor Sivakarthikeyan’s home banner, Sivakarthikeyan Productions. It is slated to be released in theatres on May 3. 

It is interesting to note that Kurangu Pedal was selected for the Indian Panorama section of the 53rd International Film Festival of India.

Director Kamalakannan on Kurangu Pedal

Saying that making a children's film is “gruelling, risky and tedious”, director Kamalakannan said he had to set aside his ego, be open to unlearning, and look at things from a child's perspective while making Kurangu Pedal. “However, you also need to plan for the next five years. If you don't keep yourself updated, you risk being exposed in front of the kids," he said.

Besides Kaali, Kurangu Pedal also stars Santhosh Velmurugan, VR Ragavan, M Gnanasekar, Rathish, Sai Ganesh, Prasanna Balachander, Jenson Diwakar and others. The film is also backed by Savitha Shanmugam and SuMee Baskaran, and has music scored by Ghibran Vaibodha. Shivanandeeswaran and SuMee Baskaran have handled editing and camera work for the film.
