The highly anticipated prequel to the blockbuster Kantara is still in the early stages of development, confirmed Rishab Shetty in a recent interview.
Kantara was one of the breakout hits of 2022, having grossed a whopping 597 crores worldwide against a budget of 16 crores.
During the recent celebration for Kantara crossing 100 days in theaters held in Bengaluru, Rishab Shetty spoke to the press after the event and thanked fans for all their love and support.
He also revealed that the prequel for Kanatra is still in the early writing stages but we can expect to see the movie in 2024.
He went on to say that the idea for the prequel came to him while he was filming Kantara, in the interview he said
"The idea came to my mind while I was shooting for Kantara. It is because the history of Kantara has more depth to it."
There is little doubt that the prequel will be a massive success after all Kantara went on become the second highest-grossing Kannada movie of all time behind KGF: Chapter 2.
The movie also received universal praise from critics and fans, with many hoping for a second installment in the franchise, so the news of a prequel has fans hyped.
Kantara is set in the 1990s and follows Kaadubettu, the son of a Bhoota Kola performer who refuses to take up his father's mantle after his father sacrifices himself to protect the village and the forest surrounding it.
The main focus of the movie is the constant struggle between man and nature as well as incorporating spiritual and supernatural elements into its narrative.
The movie has received praise from celebrities like Kamal Haasan, Hrtish Roshan, Prithviraj, SS Rajamouli, Kangana Ranaut, and more especially for its story begin rooted in the culture of Karnataka.
The cast of the movie includes Rishab Shetty, Kishore, Achyuth Kumar, Pramod Shetty, Sapthami Gowda, Prakash Thuminad, and Naveen D Padil. The movie has been dubbed in Tamil, Telegu, Malayalam, and Hindi.
