A year ago, choreographer and actor Shantanu Maheshwari won our hearts when he made his big Bollywood debut with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s blockbuster masterpiece Gangubai Kathiawadi. He beautifully portrayed the role of Afsaan, a young tailor who falls for Gangu. While his on-screen charm won us over, his simple and sweet chemistry with Alia Bhatt touched our hearts. Well, up next Shantanu will be seen as a dentist in Netflix’s Tooth Pari , which was announced today. Meanwhile, A Suitable Boy fame Tanya Maniktala will be his patient. But there’s a twist!
When you think of a film which follows the story of a dentist, your mind jumps to the most recent release which was Kartik Aaryan ’s Freddy . In the psychological thriller, Kartik played the role of a dentist who seeks revenge after the girl he loved betrays him. Well, the concept of Tooth Pari is very different and equally interesting. While Tanya is a vampire named Rumi, Shantanu is playing the role of Roy the dentist. In the very intriguing promo, Roy is about to fix Rumi’s broken tooth when he hurts his finger and a drop of blood ends up in her mouth.
Rumi enjoys the taste of human blood like it’s a rare delicacy, whereas Roy faints and falls to the ground. Well, the two actors look very convincing and in the comment section below, some fans are talking about how cool the concept is. However, there are many who are just not convinced and are comparing Tooth Pari to Kartik’s Freddy. One netizen wrote: “Freddy ke copy”, whereas another called it ‘freddy lite’. Meanwhile some have questions regarding this dentist’s ethics. For instance, one comment read: “@netflix_in : Since when did dentist stopped using surgical gloves while doing procedures/ check up ???” Another social media user asked, “Y he is not wearing mask if he is a dentist??”
Well, this bloody impossible love story is all set to premiere on Netflix on 20th April, which is World Oral Hygiene day. We are super excited. Are you?
