Shah Rukh Khan’s third offering for the year, Dunki is managing to go steady at the box office though not raging a storm like the superstar’s previous releases ie Pathaan and Jawan. The movie marks the first collaboration between the actor and Rajkumar Hirani. It also stars Boman Irani, Taapsee Pannu and Vicky Kaushal in a cameo role.
Talking about the same, according to a news report in Sacnilk, Dunki reportedly earned Rs 8.13 crore on Wednesday (December 27). This has taken the total collection of the movie in the Indian box office to Rs 149 crore. The occupancy of the movie was 17.17% in the Hindi version. The movie had minted Rs 11.56 crore on Tuesday. The film saw an opening of Rs 29.2 crore. It managed to earn Rs 20.12 crore and Rs 25.61 crore on its second and third day respectively.

The film is also facing stiff competition from Prabhas’ Salaar which is for now racing ahead in the box office race. Dunki revolves around the concept of ‘Donkey Route’ which is an illegal method through which immigrants travel abroad without a passport or visa. The movie has opened to mixed reviews from the critics and masses alike.

Desimartini’s review for Dunki read, “There’s no doubt that both Hirani and SRK are among the finest in the industry. So, when two masters in their respective professions (like them) come together, the expectations were skyrocketing. But did the film deliver on those very expectations? Probably half as much. Hirani’s trademark filmmaking style – one that revels in conveying complicated emotions with ease – isn’t one that follows set templates. He’s known for breaking them. While you’d think that Dunki will be replete with Hirani’s magical touch that will leave the audience in awe with scenes of emotional turmoil sprinkled with a generous dose of laughter, the film lacks the emotional depth that we expected.”
