Kartik Aaryan ’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 has finally done what many big stars and their big Bollywood films released in the past few months couldn’t. The movie had a bumper opening at the box-office this Friday and become the biggest Bollywood opener of 2022 so far.
The Anees Bazmee directed film has beaten the opening day box office numbers of films like Gangubai Kathiawadi and Bachchhan Paandey with collections of close to Rs. 14 crores nett. on Day 1. Alia Bhatt ’s Gangubai, which was one of Bollywood’s rare hits this year, had collected Rs. 10.5 crores on Day 1. Akshay Kumar ’s Holi release Bachchan Paandey was marginally below Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 in terms of box office collections on Day 1 and had raked in Rs. 13.25 crores but it ultimately flopped.
The buzz around Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 has been strong and the massy entertainer it promised to be and later delivered on has certainly helped the movie run houseful shows on Day 1. The movie is also Kartik’s biggest opener to date bearing films like Pati Patni Aur Woh and Love Aaj Kal .
The film has opened to good reviews and the word of mouth and buzz on social media will certainly help the film secure a big number by the end of Sunday.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 is also the second highest Bollywood opener after Sooryavanshi in the post-pandemic era and the biggest non-holiday opener.
The project has helped Kartik beat stars like Ajay Devgn , Ranveer Singh , Tiger Shroff and John Abraham who otherwise have a reputation of being Bollywood’s most bankable actors who can shoulder mega budget films. It has also helped Bollywood in bringing back audiences to cinemas who otherwise seem inclined towards big pan-Indian releases like KGF 2 , Pushpa and RRR apart from Hollywood films like Spiderman: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
The horror-comedy which is a sequel to Akshay Kumar’s 2008 film, also stars Kiara Advani , Tabu and Rajpal Yadav in key roles.
