Updated : December 07, 2022 10:03 PM ISTThe upcoming sequel to Avatar has broken its first record at the Indian Box office by becoming the fastest movie to collect Ten crores in advance ticket sales.
Avatar 2
Marvel's Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness previously held the record for the fastest ten crore collections in advance sales, which managed the feat just 9 days before its release.
And as of Monday night, James Cameron's Avatar 2 has done the same in 10 days, thus breaking its first record at the Indian box office. The highest advance booking for a Hollywood movie in India is currently held by Avengers: End Game with 65 crores.
It remains to be seen wheater or not Avtar 2 could break this record but the hype surrounding the movie has only increased in the country thanks to the recentre-realse of Avatar in theaters and the positive early reactions from critics.
Currently, the movie is predicted to gross somewhere between 150-180 million dollars in its opening weekend from the US market and a total between 526–741 million by the end of its domestic run.
The movie will have to earn at least two billion dollars for it to break even and while these predictions seem conservative, we have to remember that before Avtar hit theaters worldwide in 2009 many doubted that movie could be a success.
Of course, when the movie hit theatres on December 18 worldwide it broke all expectations and went too to become the highest-grossing movie of all time with a total collection of 2.9 billion dollars worldwide.
While we don't have an estimate on what the studio believes the movie will gross in the international market, the fact that the movie has secured a Chinese release will no doubt give it a huge boast in numbers.
Avatar 2 is set 10 years after the events of the first Avatar with Jake Sully and his family on the run after the Humans launch their second invasion of Pandora.
The main cast of the movie includes Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, and Kate Winslet.
Avatar: The Way of Water will hit theaters worldwide on December 16th.
