The wait is finally over for all the fans of Ranbir Kapoor as his blockbuster film Animal has finally got a date for its much-awaited OTT release. Not only this but the film will be released with an extended cut and will be even longer than its already whooping 201 minutes of runtime. The film will be released on the OTT streaming platform Netflix on January 26, 2024.
Talking about the same, in an earlier interview with a publication, the director of the film Sandeep Reddy Vanga also said that he has an extended cut of the movie he plans to release on OTT. The film which was 3 hours 21 minutes long in the theatres will see an extended cut of more 8 minutes on its OTT release. Thus, the total runtime of Animal on Netflix will be 3 hours 29 minutes. According to a news report by India Today, the film will have an extra scene featuring Rashmika Mandanna which was edited out from the theatrical release.
It was reported that there was trouble brewing with the OTT release of Animal. Co-producer Cine1 Studios Pvt Ltd approached the Delhi High Court requesting a stay on the film’s OTT release and satellite broadcast. The production house claimed that they were not paid a single penny and accused the other producers of breaching the contract. But looks like this issue has been resolved since the film is soon heading for its OTT release on Netflix on the occasion of Republic Day.
Animal turned out to strike gold at the box office. The worldwide collection of the movie amounts to Rs 843 crore. However, critically the film received polarizing reviews. While some appreciated Ranbir’s performance and the cinematic execution, some critics and audiences bashed the film for glorifying toxic masculinity violence. The film is headed for a sequel titled Animal Park.
