Amar Singh Chamkila trailer: Imtiaz Ali gives glimpses of the story of the Elvis of Punjab with Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra

The makers of Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra starrer Netflix film Amar Singh Chamkila dropped its trailer on Thursday. The Imtiaz Ali directorial chronicles the life and times of the highest record selling artist of the state, who was also known as the Elvis of Punjab.

The trailer begins with giving us glimpses of how Amar Singh became 'Chamkila'. He used to make socks in a factory but his mind was always musically inclined. Even though, he knew he was a nobody, he had a firm belief that someday he will become a notable personality. 

In one of the scenes in the trailer, as Amar Singh gets ready to perform on a local stage, his name gets an inaccurate title. When he confronts the host, he's told it doesn't matter since nobody's going to remember his name anyway. Little did he know how wrong he was!

While looking for a singing partner, he happens to meet Amarjot Kaur - who he later marries. Amar Singh Chamkila and his music start getting massive popularity. However, the lyrics of his song were deemed vulgar and obscene by certain sections of the society. Ultimately, the singer was assassinated at the young age of 27. 

The songs of the film have been penned by Irshad Kamil and the music has been composed by AR Rahman. Nine years after Imtiaz Ali's Tamasha, the Netflix film has reunited the trio of Rahman, Kamil and Ali. The makers of the film had already released two songs before launching its trailer, which have been well received by the audiences. 

In the words of Ali, the film is "a celebration of the life of an artist." It's the story of a musician who never gave up on his love for music. The movie will be available to stream on Netflix from April 12.
