The New Year begins with disappointing news for Thala fans as the production house Lyca Productions, which is bankrolling Thala Ajith’s long-delayed film Vidaamuyarchi, has once again pushed the release date of the film from the Pongal 2025 release slot.
On the eve of the New Year, the makers of the film announced that the much-delayed Tamil action thriller, which was earlier booked for a January 10 release, had to be postponed from the allotted Pongal release due to "unavoidable circumstances." The makers issued a statement on the matter, which read:
Wishing everyone a Happy New Year 2025! 😇✨

Due to unavoidable circumstances, the release of VIDAAMUYARCHI is postponed from PONGAL! Kindly stay tuned for further updates! The wait will be worth it! 🙏🏻#Vidaamuyarchi #HappyNewYear pic.twitter.com/Xxt7sx1AMY
“Wishing everyone a Happy New Year! Due to unavoidable circumstances, our film Vidamuyarchi will not be released on Pongal day. We wish all our fans and well-wishers a prosperous year ahead. – Lyca Productions.”
Fans rage against postponement
The new statement has not sat well with fans who have been eagerly anticipating the release of this highly awaited star-studded film during the Pongal season. Many netizens slammed the production house for the constant delays and urged immediate action against them.

#VidaaMuyarchi - Missed the Golden Slot of the Year..😞 Could've Easily become #Ajithkumar's Highest Grosser with all those Holidays..🥲 pic.twitter.com/npuDQlAYwu

One user wrote, “Lyca not only postponed #VidaaMuyarchi but they ruined this long Pongal holiday weekend for Kollywood by announcing the postponement too late, which prevents other biggies from releasing during the Pongal holidays. 🫵🏿😤 Another dull Pongal loading for K’wood.”

Other films to benefit from Vidaamuyarchi’s postponement
Meanwhile, with the postponement of Vidaamuyarchi, other Tamil films, including Bala and Arun Vijay’s Vanangaan, Shane Nigam’s Madraskaaran, and Shankar and Ram Charan’s Telugu pan-India film Game Changer, will occupy the Pongal/Sankranthi slot this month.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time an Ajith Kumar film has been postponed during the Pongal season, only to be replaced by a Shankar film. For context, in 2015, Ajith’s Yennai Arindhal, which was supposed to release during Pongal, was postponed and replaced by Shankar and Vikram’s I during the festive season. Now, after 10 years, Ajith’s film has once again been postponed to be replaced by Shankar’s Game Changer this Pongal season.
