The crime thriller Drishyam 2 starring Ajay Devgn , Tabu , and Akshaye Khanna continued to enjoy its dream run at the box office ever since it was released on November 19. In just seven days, the movie has crossed Rs 100 crore mark making it to the list of highest-grossing movies of this year. According to trade experts, the movie is set for another Rs 50 crore business in its second week.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh on Instagram wrote, “#Drishyam2 is 100 NOT OUT… Packs a SOLID SCORE in Week 1… TERRIFIC weekend, SUPER-STRONG weekdays… All eyes are on Weekend 2… Fri 15.38 cr, Sat 21.59 cr, Sun 27.17 cr, Mon 11.87 cr, Tue 10.48 cr, Wed 9.55 cr, Thu 8.62 cr. Total: ₹ 104.66 cr. #India biz.” Further, he added that ‘the industry needs several #Drishyam2s to erase the memory of the nightmarish Fridays we witnessed in 2022…”
As per Boxofficeindia.com, Drishyam 2 has dipped only 10% on weekdays as compared to the opening weekend. The film has amassed terrific numbers mainly from Mumbai and Gujarat. “The first week stands at Rs 103 crore nett which is the fourth best ever for an Ajay Devgn starrer and the third best post-pandemic after Brahmastra and Sooryavanshi,” said Box Office India. However, Drishyam 2 may face competition with the freshly released horror-comedy Bhediya which stars Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon. But going by its strong hold on weekdays, Drishyam 2 is expected to emerge as a blockbuster in the long run.
Directed by Abhishek Pathak, the film is the sequel to the 2015 Drishyam, a Hindi remake of the Mohanlal-starrer Malayalam movie of the same name. While Ajay, Shriya Saran, Tabu, and Ishita Dutta reprised their roles, Akshaye Khanna is the new addition to the Drishyam franchise.
