A still from Indian 2
Actress Priya Bhavani Shankar recently addressed the backlash she faced following the poor box-office performance of Indian 2 , which stars Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan in the lead role. She played a key supporting role in the film, which was written and directed by seasoned filmmaker Shankar.
Indian 2 was a critical failure, and subsequently, it also tanked at the box office. One of the main reasons cited for this was that Indian 2 focused less on Kamal’s iconic character, Indian Thatha, and gave more attention to peripheral characters, which disappointed fans of the original Indian.
However, the filmmakers are unlikely to repeat this mistake in Indian 3, which is due in cinemas next year. Priya revealed that her screen time in Indian 3 will be significantly less compared to Indian 2. "Indian 3 will continue the story right from where it ended in Indian 2. Indian 3 is completely Kamal sir's film," she told Cinema Vikatan.

Indian 2 is now set to make its streaming debut on Netflix on August 9. The post-production work of Indian 3 is expected to commence soon, with a release expected in January next year. However, an official confirmation on this is still awaited.
In the meantime, Priya revealed that she has no regrets about choosing Indian 2, noting that she would do it all over again if given the chance.
"Who would say no to a film directed by Shankar sir and starring Kamal Haasan? Beyond the question of whether or not this film worked, I cherish the process. Unfortunately, we shot it over five years ago. We didn’t plan for it; it just happened. I got the opportunity to spend time with such big names and was humbled. There is a lot to learn from Shankar sir and Kamal sir," she added.
Priya will be seen next in Demonte Colony 2, which is set to hit the screens on August 15.
