Prabhas and Kriti Sanon starrer Adipurush, an adaptation of Ramayan, has collapsed at the box office in just seven days of release. The film, though embroiled in controversy, performed fantastically at the opening weekend. However, the first week started off on a disastrous note as it has so far minted only Rs 260.55 crore at the domestic box office as per reports.
Made on a budget of Rs 500 crore, the Om Raut directorial had an epic fall. On Day 7, the film could only manage to mint Rs 4.85 crore in India across all languages as per industry tracker Sacnilk. The film opened on Friday at Rs 86.75 crore, followed by earnings of Rs Rs 65.25 crore and Rs 69.1 crore on Saturday and Sunday respectively. The first Monday collection witnessed a major drop, grossing only Rs 16 crore. On Tuesday, the film minted Rs 10.7 crore and on Wednesday, it registered a mere Rs 7.25 crore.
At the worldwide box office, Adipurush crossed Rs 300 crore in three days of release. However, the numbers drop as the backlash came into play in the first week of collection. According to the film’s producer T-series, the film grossed Rs 410 crore globally in six days of release. The latest update on Day 7 is yet to be released.
Ever since Adipurush was released on June 16, 2023, it has been receiving criticism for dialogues and hurting Hindu sentiments for giving a modern twist to the epic tale of Ramayana. In the wake of the backlash, the makers have revamped the dialogues and have also slashed the ticket prices to Rs 150 but still the footfalls remained low. Backed by Retrophile and T-series, the film also stars Saif Ali Khan, Sunny Singh, Devdutta Nage, Sonal Chauhan and Vatsal Sheth in pivotal roles.
